Biography

A regular guest at Europe’s leading opera houses, soprano Ruth Iniesta has recently appeared as Violetta in La traviata at Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona, Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor at Semperoper in Dresden, Aspasia in Mitridate, re di Ponto at Teatro Real in Madrid, Amina in La sonnambula at the Opera di Roma, Liù in Turandot and Teresa in Benvenuto Cellini at La Monnaie in Brussels, Marguerite in Faust at Palau de les Arts in Valencia, and Musetta in La bohème at the Royal Opera House in London.

The recipient of the Talía Award from the Spanish Academy of Performing Arts on two occasions (2024 and 2026), as well as the Campoamor Lyric Award and RNE’s El Ojo Crítico Award, she has also performed at the Paris Opera, the Vienna State Opera, the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, the Sydney Opera House, the Hamburg State Opera, the Teatro di San Carlo in Naples, and the Arena di Verona.

During the 2026–2027 season, she returns to Palau de les Arts and Teatro La Fenice in Venice as Micaela in Carmen; stars in two new productions of Lucia di Lammermoor at Auditorio Baluarte in Pamplona and Teatro Massimo in Palermo; creates the world premiere of Las 13 rosas rojasby Cecilia Bercovich at Teatro de la Zarzuela in Madrid; reprises Adina in L’elisir d'amore at the Teatre Principal de Maó; and releases her new album, recorded for Teatro de la Zarzuela.

Widely recognised as one of today’s leading interpreters of the bel canto repertoire, Ruth Iniesta has developed a career closely associated with the works of Donizetti, Bellini and Rossini, performing many of the genre’s principal roles and establishing herself as one of Spain’s foremost sopranos in this repertoire. Her interpretation of Armida has been released on the Naxos label.

Mozart also occupies a central place in her career, with roles in Die Zauberflöte, Don Giovanni, Le nozze di Figaro and Die Entführung aus dem Serail. Her repertoire further includes the operas of Verdi and Puccini, whose works feature prominently throughout her career.

Since the beginning of her career, Iniesta has also maintained a strong commitment to the Spanish zarzuela repertoire, starring in productions of Doña Francisquita, La del manojo de rosas, Château Margaux, Pan y toros and Jugar con fuego. During the 2025–2026 season, her performance of the romance from Jugar con fuego was rewarded with the rare honour of an encore at Teatro de la Zarzuela.
